FAQ

Frequently asked questions… with a difference! We will hopefully target the questions that are on most students minds when it comes to safety! Please scroll down and browse through the ones that are already up and get in touch with any others. We will be more than happy to add them to the ever-growing list!

I go out most nights in Reading town centre. I walk into town, during the summer it is light so I feel safer but what about during the winter? If I am walking from the university, what is the safest route?

My friends and I all live together in a house in the university area. We all arrive together and all leave together. To get home we normally take a taxi. Taxis are always there waiting but I have been told that I should never get in a private-hire taxi if I didn’t call for it. Is this true? And why?

I am at Reading University but my best friend is at Liverpool. We talk regularly and the subject of going out often comes up! She says that she constantly has to watch her drink in nightclubs as drink-spiking is a regular occurrence. Should I watch my drink in Reading? Is anything being done to prevent this drink-spiking culture?

I was waiting for my drink at a town-centre nightclub the other night and after paying for it, upon closer inspection, I realised that my pint glass was in fact plastic! Why is this?

I live with my housemates in the university area. I am in my final year and although I love going out, my work has to come first this year! Due to this, I am often finding myself asleep by midnight! More often that not now, I am getting woken up by drunk students walking home in the early hours – I’ve had enough! Do I call the Police? University security? Help!

I often come out of the club at night – broke! I can never seem to afford the taxi back home! Are there any alternatives to a taxi? If I walk will there be CCTV everywhere I walk? This worries me every week!

My boyfriend is a member of a university sports team and regularly goes on pub-golf sessions or speed-drinking sessions with his team mates. Every night he does this I seem to have to carry him home and he remembers little the next morning. I am worried he is doing some serious harm to himself. Is he?
